Food fails! 8 ways we're making our kids fat
Mon Nov 28, 2011
My kids are adults now, so I don't have control over their food. But when they were little, I mostly followed these guidelines. I hate to see kids snacking all day - mine got ONE snack, it was usually a small piece of cheese, or a couple crackers.
Pill-free diet swaps to lower your cholesterol
Sun Nov 27, 2011
Both of my parents, in their 60's, were diagnosed with high cholesterol. Both chose to change their diets - no red meat, no fried foods, no baked goods, no dairy, no processed foods at all. Both started walking - a lot. As in, 5-10 miles a DAY. Every day, rain or shine.
45 percent in US struggle to make ends meet
Tue Nov 22, 2011
Yes, there are people that are suffering that made all the right choices - but many more who made poor ones, and are STILL making poor ones. My daughters sister in law has 2 kids, one a baby, and just announced she's pregnant again.
No day to remember a hero
Tue Nov 22, 2011
I was in 2nd grade, and I DO remember this. Our family talked a lot about politics, before and after this event. Not everyone loved him, trust me. He bumbled many things, he was far from perfect. He started the entitlements that are draining our economy today.

Surviving the relatives at Thanksgiving
Fri Nov 18, 2011
Don't invite people you don't like! Just because they're related doesn't make them mandatory guests.
What does rising inequality suggest about the American dream?
Wed Nov 16, 2011
We are shifting from manufacturing, as decades ago we shifted from agriculture. It's a tech world, and we need to provide kids the skills.
Fertility math? Most women flunk, survey finds
Tue Nov 15, 2011
I had kids at 25, 33, 37 and 38. The last two were NOT planned, and I was using birth control. The first one - with my ex - took 2 years to conceive. The last 3, pregnant just like that.
Diabetes shame plus denial a risky combo
Thu Nov 3, 2011
The shame is there for a reason - many (not most) of type 2 diabetics spent a large part of their life eating badly, not exercising sufficiently (or at all), and/or being overweight.
'Freshman 15' officially just a myth, study says
Wed Nov 2, 2011
My older daughter went to college in NYC, and lost 20 lbs over her 3 years (graduated early). Walking was a lot of it (about 20 blocks each way from the dorm), plus a lot of stair climbing.
